SF1OG refers to "Seitenflügel 1. Obergeschoss", which is the description I had on a package delivered to my apartment in Berlin Friedrichshain.
SF1OG is the space in that I came up with the idea of creating a brand, it's where I am hand-making all the clothes from start to finish.
SF1OG is founded by me, Rosa, 21 years old, (currently still) studying fashion design in Berlin, wich made me move here at the age of 17.
Growing up I never had much so I was forced to get creative with what I had - mostly clothes that were second hand or "necessary basics". My mum taught me how to sew at the age of 10 and I started consuming Youtube videos about how to DIY fabrics to create my own new piece out of what I had. The first patterns I ever made were for printed T-shirts, wich were what I really wanted at that time. Instead of buying them I took a simple white shirt and cut something that I drew out of leftover fabric to then sew it on (mostly comic characters I used to be drawing). From there I went into learning how to work with pre-made patterns and sewing instructions in Burda, wich made me understand garments a lot more. I made my first ever "recycled denim Jeans" out of old Jeans and woman shirts out of mens shirts, wich I sold on "Dawanda".
Studying fashion design was my dream even though people close to me did not recommend taking "the creative path". Now that I am in the studys I believe in my idea more than ever, but less than ever I believe in the concept of studying something like this. Of course it creates the base for thinking and finding out who you are as a person and maybe a brand, but the ways of going about a design are always followed with rules and opinions and very outdated expectations.
The compromise is to change these issues for my own brand, my little ideal bubble, which I started to work on in free time apart from uni and my side jobs. All the pieces one-offs, are handmade in Berlin and mostly recycled, up-cycled or re-used.
Patterns are constructed by me wich makes changes easy and makes the piece sustainable in that sense, too.
MY ASPIRATION IS TO CREATE GARNEMNTS THAT HAVE NO RULE, THAT TRANSPORT MY CREATIVE ENERGY TO THE PERSON WEARING IT WITHOUT HAVING THE SHAMEFUL ASPECT OF BEING MADE TO BE WASTE SOON. EVERYTHING SHOULD BE HIGH QUALITY AND WELL THOUGHT ABOUT.
EVERYTHING SHOULD GIVE OLD CLOTHES A NEW LIFE, AND KEEP ON TELLING A STORY OF THE PAST AND THE FUTURE.
If you want to work with me on a custom piece that is more than welcome, please just contact via Instagram/ Email.
